(Ricoh GRD 4)
By a bit
of perseverance, I have been maintaining
this blog for nearly 5 years even though leisure is now too much of a luxury idea
for me. I would otherwise have done more
camera field tests. But anyway I am truly
satisfied with this tiny space for sharing images in a total of over 1700 posts
so far. The GRD4 acquired weeks ago has been
filling my days with gladness, reaping many keepers pleasing to my eye. I am yet to really explore its capabilities. How much more joyful I would be with a GR, I
wonder. But its slow lens is a deal
breaker to me. After all, the GRD4 is
doing what I need for shooting in the street.
I just leave the duties befitting the GR to my Leica X1 which I use
mainly for recording the daily life of my family. The X1 has been doing an absolutely fantastic
job.
Let me take the chance to say thanks to you, readers. Thank you for dropping by.

Glad to see the GRD IV works so well for you, the slower lens on the GR is not really a problem thanks to the great high ISO which leaves even the GXR and f1.2 Nokton combination behind.
The extra DOF on the GRD IV however comes in handy at times so it's an advantage not to be underestimated, especially for street photography.
I have read a local photography mag for a comparison review between the GR and GXR. They praised the better IQ of shots from GR. But I am still amazed by your observation that it does a better job than GXR plus the Nokton. I thought the shots from the M module + the Nokton as I tried it were pleasing enough.
The GR and GXR are fantastic cameras and complement each other very well, for me these are the best cameras one can get right now. The Sony RX1 and NEX-6 are also very nice though.
While the GXR and Nokton combination are great and have a lot of character, the much higher and better ISO on the GR edges out despite the slower lens. I can get a faster shutter speed at f2.8 and ISO 25600 than the GXR allows me at f1.2 and ISO 3200 so this is the main difference. With the GR sensor in a new Mount module this would look different although I hope Ricoh will somehow get the Sony RX1 sensor in a new M mount camera/module.
